Abu Dhabi 6 Hours – Yas Marina Circuit

Jack Mitchell secured a podium finish in the GTX class at the 6 Hours of Abu Dhabi, finishing third after a race that combined early dominance with a significant setback.

Starting from pole position in class at the Yas Marina Circuit, Mitchell and Michael Simpson made a strong start in the Ginetta G56 GT2. The pair led the GTX category from the outset and quickly integrated into the overall fight, running as high as 20th outright while battling closely with GT3 machinery in the opening phase of the race.

However, shortly after the first hour, a mechanical issue forced the car into the garage, resulting in nearly two hours lost while the team worked to diagnose and resolve the problem. Despite the setback, the focus shifted to maximising valuable running time ahead of the upcoming 24-hour race. Once the issue was identified and repaired, the car returned to the circuit to continue gathering data and complete the programme.

Although the time lost put overall victory out of reach, consistent pace in the remaining hours allowed the team to recover to third in class. The performance potential of the package was underlined by setting the fastest lap of the race in GTX — a clear indication of the Ginetta GT2’s competitiveness.

The result marked a resilient recovery drive, combining early-race pace with determination to return to the track and finish the event despite significant time in the garage.
