Ginetta Junior Championship Donington Park 2014

Jack arrived at Donington Park for rounds 3 and 4 of this year's Ginetta Junior Championships full of confidence after his double victory at the opening rounds at Brands Hatch and having topped the testing times at Thruxton in preparation for rounds 5 and 6.

He then topped the free practice times on Thursday at Donington and followed that by emerging from qualifying with pole position for both rounds.

The first race was held in dry and sunny conditions on Saturday afternoon, where a good start saw Jack take an immediate lead. He gradually eased clear of the chasing pack, lapping very consistently, to take the chequered flag 1.5 secs ahead after 11 laps and setting fastest lap to emphasise his domination.

Race two was on Sunday and saw more challenging conditions. Heavy early rain gave way to drying conditions, but the track was still wet off the racing line as the Juniors took the start. Jack made a reasonable start, but was beaten to the first corner by a fast-starting Lando Norris and had to slot into 2nd. Having stayed close behind the leader during the opening couple of laps, a well judged move on the inside under braking for Redgate at the start of lap 3 saw Jack move into the lead. Norris was immediately passed by James Kellett, so Jack found himself under pressure from Kellet over the next few laps. What Jack didn't know until the start of the last lap, was that Kellett had been given a 'drive-through' penalty for jumping the start. Having failed to take the penalty within the allotted 3 laps, Kellet was shown the black flag and duly pulled into the pits at the end of the penultimate lap, leaving Jack to enjoy a pressure free last lap as he extended his winning run to four races.
